The Frome Independent - August 2018 - Frome On Sea

  • Bath Street Frome Somerset (map)

"All that’s missing is the sea…"

Join us on Sunday 5th August at Frome-On-Sea - Somerset's smallest, briefest urban beach... We'll have real sand, seagulls, deckchairs and donkey rides, plus a whole load of summer good-times from our lovely traders.

Frome-On-Sea has been a TFI institution since it’s inception in the summer of 2014. As many of you decamp to warmer climes during the summer holidays, we thought we would bring a little bit of the Great British seaside to Frome for the day, and install our very own pop-up beach for one market only in August each year.

Come and relax in a deckchair, build a sandcastle, or take a ride on one of our lovely therapy donkeys. The Vintage Mobile Disco will be in Club Tropicana mode, with a whole lineup of retro summertime sounds, and we may even have a visit from some very special friends of Rare Species who will help you get beach-body ready…

The Frome Independent is an award winning, destination street market with a difference. We reclaim Frome’s high street once a month to showcase the best independent craftspeople, designers, makers, producers and traders in the South West.

Established in 2013 as a not-for-profit organisation, The Frome Independent is produced and managed by Foreground, the innovative Frome-based visual art commissioning organisation.

The Frome Independent re-invents the traditional street market closing Frome town centre to traffic on the first Sunday of every month between March and December. We have taken established models of the specialist street market – artisan food, garden & flowers, antiques and collectibles – and have added to that an additional focus on designers and makers, plus elements more familiar from festivals: live music & DJs, street food, art and events. Explore the market here.

The Frome Independent has quickly grown to be one of the most significant elements of Frome’s social calendar attracting over 80,000 people a year and generating an estimated £2.5 million in revenue for its traders and Frome’s independent retailers and hospitality businesses.
